Keep It Moving!

As information was being pumped into my mind, questions were raised as to why certain policies existed, or even better who gets to make decisions that affect me as an individual…as a citizen of this great, BIG world.  I remember the sobering thought that as a junior in college it would soon be my turn to step up and shoulder the responsibilities of my world as an “up and coming” adult.   I could no longer depend on the “grown ups” to come up with all the answers or to ask the thought provoking questions beginning with, “Why…”

I began to feel older, inadequate and than overwhelmed.  The “grown ups” didn’t always get it wrong, but they also didn’t always get it right.  It appeared that the world was changing as old ideas and generations expired right before my eyes.  Funny, this had been happening all along, I just had not come to the realization until then.  This revelation marked the beginning of my transformation from a carefree life to the stresses of critical thinking, accountability and developing a pathway for my future.

Not sure if I was alone in this transformational process, but I knew I could not shake it.  I had to figure out what I could do with this new found freedom that was wrapped up with so many restrictions.  I began to challenge, question and self evaluate!

As time progressed (adulthood) I began to take risk.  I had my own for-profit business (making my mark) only later to realize that my heart responded more when I operated a non-profit business.  The process of finding me…

So I say, find out where you are in the process and “Keep It Moving!”

Interesting read! Welcome to “the world of grown-ups.” I’m in agreement about the delight in giving service to others in the non-profit arena. Personally for me, it was a “healing thing” while reaching out to others. Whether for profit or non-profit, one’s work is a commentary on their character. I have had the pleasure of witnessing your exceptional talent, Miss Toni J, and to piggy back on your well-written article, I will add that talents are not to be laid up for self but laid out in service in this great, BIG world. Thanks for motivating me to “keep it moving” by caring and sharing. Indeed it is the “grown-up” thing to do.
